Equestrian-ArcherMonthly Archery and Equestrian practices resume in February 2011! May is 5/14/2011.

Next Mountain Edge practice is Saturday, May 14th. No prior equestrian authorizations are required for the Saturday equestrian activities - a Mounted Games authorization is required prior to practicing Mounted Archery on Sundays. Equestrians: if you want to get two practices for one trailer haul, a small number of stalls are available at the farm for $10 for the weekend - arrivals Friday evening are possible - please reserve the stall with Macha. There are different EMICs and sponsoring branches for each practice, so this is also a chance for Junior Equestrian Marshals to get more marshalling experience for your promotion to Senior Equestrian Marshal.

Directions:

From Newberg: take Hwy 219 (College St.) north (towards Hillsboro and Scholls). Just before Chehalem Mountain Pass, turn left onto Mountain Top Rd. (gravel). If you see an elevation sign for the pass, you've missed the turn. Stay on Mountain Top Rd. 2.1 miles (bearing left to remain along the mountain ridge). Watch for white board fences and blue barns - turn right to follow the drive between the white board fences. If you pass a dome home and alpacas on your left, you've missed the driveway. SCA signs will be posted.

From Hillsboro/Scholls/Tigard: take your best route to Hwy 219 south towards Newberg. Just after the Chehalem Mountain Pass, watch for a sign on your right listing Bald Peak State Park. Turn right - you are now on Mountain Top Rd.. Follow directions as above.

Flu-Flu Class Session Topics and Materials List:

Wednesday, April 13, 6-9PM:  Introduction to Arrow Materials.
Covers the materials needed for making arrows and why, the difference between flu-flu's and target arrows, and a chance to see the specifications in person, so to say. ;) It will give you confidence to buy the supplies.  You can also bring your own supplies that you happen to have lying around to see if they are appropriate.
Wednesday, April 27, 6-9PM: Spining, nocks and staining
Learn to get your arrows to the right length, the appropriate spine, set the nocks and stain them so they are water-resistant and protected from filth--as well look pretty. :)  Will briefly go over cresting and other arrow shaft decoration, although we will not be doing this in class.
Wednesday, May 4, 6-9PM OR Wednesday, May 11 6-9 PM.
Finish the arrows by putting on tips and fletches.  Learn to cut your own fletches, if you purchased full length, or mount the pre-cut fletches.  Brief discussion on fletching angles and the needed drag so you don't lose these babies.  Test flights if the glue on the tips is dry and everyone is game.  :)
FEE (Payable to the instructor):  $7.00 (covers all three classes).
Dinner is provided - potluck contributions are welcome!
